This part was very familiar. She was laid on the changing table. Her underwear were slid off - she had a feeling it’d be the last time she saw that particular pair - and she was cleaned up with wipes and cream and powder. Ida took her time this time, moreso than the other changes. Charlie guessed because she didn’t have Charlie’s presence in the “game” to worry about, now. Ida hummed as she produced another diaper. It was another of the ones she’d put her in when she’d called her a ‘sleepy, messy girl’, with pink sides and extra-thick white padding covered with little cartoon desserts.

“Here we are, here’s Charlie’s diaper,” Ida said softly as she pulled the center up, making Charlie once again feel her legs being forced apart by the bulk of a very thick diaper. With her diaper on, Ida went to work getting her pajamas on. These ones didn’t come with bloomers, instead they had snaps in the crotch, like a onesie, making them even more babyish than the nightgown Charlie had worn earlier. Once she had dressed Charlie up, Ida looked down at Charlie, still laying on the table.

“Now, are you getting tired, Charlie?” She asked. Speaking of when Ida had called her sleepy, earlier. She was unable to keep from letting out a yawn into her hands.

“Y-yeah,” she said. She blinked her eyes a few times, trying to think through the fog of tiredness now encroaching on her mind and figure out one simple thing - how many questions had that been? Ida had 10 questions to use on her. So far, Charlie was fed, diapered and dressed. She was probably gonna nod off in a couple minutes and she was surrounded by cribs. She might not even need another question to finish this, but she still tried to count them up. Sitting on her lap, that was one. The bottle and the strawberry milk, that was two more, so, three. The clothes was four, exposing her panties and then having an accident in them, that was six. The diaper was seven and making her tired was…

…eight. She had two questions left. Charlie tried to focus as hard as she could, even as she grew more tired. She HAD to make Ida waste those last two questions. She blinked a couple times and put on the best bambi eyes she could manage, raising her arms up towards Ida as she laid on the table. Ida looked confused for a moment, then let out an ‘awwww’ noise.

“Do you want a hug from nana, Charlie?”

“Y-yes! Yeah,” Charlie said, hoping she hadn’t done so a bit to aggressively. Apparently she didn’t as Ida reached down and picked her up, letting Charlie throw her arms around her neck. Ida held one arm underneath Charlie, lightly bouncing her up and down, her hand lightly squeezing Charlie’s soft, padded bottom. Her constantly crinkling butt aside, it was a pretty nice hug.

‘That’s 9….’ Charlie thought. She had to get Ida to waste one more question, then get out of here, somehow. She didn’t have a lot of ideas for how to do that. Once Ida started to pull her away, she just acted on instinct and held on.

“Okay, Charlie, that’s enough hugs for now, it’s time for bed,” Ida said, lightly tugging Charlie.

“Nnnn!” Charlie objected, holding tight onto Ida. She closed her eyes. Ugh, that had been it, she’d made the wrong call. She was gonna use the last question to get her off, she knew it. She’d messed up…!

“Hmhmhm, such a silly, clingy girl,” Ida cooed, rubbing Charlie’s back. “You want to stay next to Nana all night, don’t you?” She asked. Charlie’s eyes shot open.

‘Holy crap!’ Internally, she cheered.

“Y-yes!” She exclaimed, trying not to sound too excited. “I wanna. I wanna stay with Nana tonight!” She repeated and gave a couple nods.

“Alright, alright, we can stay like this for a while,” she said, continuing to cradle Charlie against her and this time, Charlie had no problem admitting it - it was a great hug. She was really enjoying cuddling up to Ida right now, because fortunately, she was only gonna be doing it for a while, not for six more months. In that context, Ida rubbing her back and head, lightly bouncing her up and down, carrying her around the room and humming sweet lullabies to her was pretty nice. She almost nodded off, but she kept her eyes open. She just had to stay awake for a little longer….

“Okay, my sweet, sweet, cuddlebug,” Ida said as she approached an open crib. “Are you ready to get in your crib, now?”

“Nope!” Charlie said immediately. “No, no thanks, no, no, no thanks, thanks, but no thanks, thanks, no. No, no thank you. Nope, no.” She took in a breath and added, “…no.”

Ida blinked a couple times. She looked at Charlie. She straight up did not understand what had just happened. Her lips parted and hung open for a second. She took Charlie off her shoulder and looked at her.

Then, her hands came up and she started murmuring to herself and counting on her fingers. One, two, three, four, five. Then her other hand. Six, seven, eight…nine….

The ghost nanny let out a huff. For the first time tonight, she actually looked just a little bit pissed. Charlie let out a long breath of relief, knowing that meant her plan had worked.

‘Actually, now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure this means I still gotta spend the night with her. All cuddled up with her too and whatnot.’ But that was fine. Because even as big as those cribs were on the inside, she was certain they were too big for Ida. So she couldn’t be next to Ida while still being in a crib. She was pretty sure. That was fine. She would spend a night snuggling with nana if it saved her six months of going potty in her pants.

“You got nana to ask some silly questions, didn’t you?” Ida sighed. “You’re a very clever little baby, Charlie.” Her tone was strained, as she tried to keep her frustration tempered behind her typical affectionate, matronly demeanor. She floated through the bedroom to a door at the end of it that Charlie hadn’t seen before. She opened the door and went through. Then, she let out a little laugh.

“Buuuuut. Nana is even more clever.”

The room was Ida’s own bedroom. It was unsurprising that the room where she rested was right next to the one where all her little ones slept. There wasn’t a ton to it. A small bookshelf and a small painting of a blond-haired angelic woman before a bright orange sun on the wall. In one corner, there was a queen-sized bed (that no doubt got big enough for Ida when she laid down on it). And next to the bed was a small cradle, even smaller than the cribs in the adjoining room.

“Wh-wha?” Charlie stared at the cradle, her eyes big.

“Here we are, right next to nana,” Ida said, floating to the cradle and holding Charlie over it. “Oh, you know, sometimes one of the girls gets scared of bad dream, or they’re just feeling particularly little and clingy that night. But usually it’s not on their first night,” she said, having a little giggle at Charlie’s expense. “But you want to spend the night right next to Nana, yes?” She asked.

“Y-yes,” Charlie was forced to respond, but quickly added, “W-wait, wait, wait!” as Ida started lowering her towards the cradle. “Wait! The rule was, in a crib! Asleep in a crib! This isn’t a crib!”

“It counts,” Ida said with a little laugh. “I wrote them down somewhere. It includes cribs, cradles and bassinets.” She smiled at Charlie. “Want nana to make you a bassinet?” She asked. “You can be all nice and snug in there, oh, and nana could put wheels on it so she can take you all over the daycare with her without even having to take you out. That sounds like such fun!” She giggled. “What do you think, Charlie?” She asked. Charlie winced. She hoped Ida was just having fun, and really, she was, but. She was choosing to rub it in, too. “Which do you want? The cradle or the bassinet?”

‘Makin’ me surrender when I’m not even affected by the truffle anymore. That’s coooooooooold, Ida!’ Inwardly, she sighed.

“I wanna sleep in the cradle next to nana’s bed,” she whimpered out.

No point in being a sore loser. Even if using a love of sweets to win was foul play!

“Goooood girl,” Ida said sweetly and laid Charlie down in the cradle. It grew to be spacious enough to fit Charlie’s body and not much more than that. She could just barely stretch out to her full height and width, but Ida began fluffing up and adding addition pillows and blankets to tuck her in with. Charlie whined as the additional bedding started making things a bit more snug. She tried to push some of it away.

“I-I’m fine without all’a this…” She said weakly and yawned into her hand. Ida leaned in and popped a pacifier into her mouth. “—mmph.”

“Shhh. That’s a good girl. Time for sleep, now,” she said. Then, she leaned in to kiss Charlie. As she saw her come closer, lips puckered, it dimly occurred to Charlie that despite how much constant kissing all of those ghost girls had done, this was the first time Ida had kissed anyone all night…

Ida’s lips touched her cheeks and she instantly understood why. It was like a burst of warmth through her entire body, and Charlie just felt herself instantly untense and flop onto the soft surface of the cradle. Her arms and legs felt like wet noodles. Her brain felt like it was full of cotton candy fluff. She felt a very potent mix of exhaustion, relaxation and contentment that had exactly one solution that her body was happily finding.

Her eyes slid closed as Ida went back to pulling blankets up over her and slipping pillows under her head. She felt the front of her diaper growing warm as she started wetting. She tried to open her mouth to say something to Ida about it, but she wound up just murmuring into her pacifier and sucking it a couple more times. She was asleep before she was even finished wetting herself or being tucked in.

‘CHARLIE’

“There we go!” Ida said as she finished writing the name on the board, which she put back on the wall afterwards. A little picture of Charlie appeared next to her name, underneath pictures of all the other ghost girls.

Charlie let out a sigh as she watched it all unfold.

“Charlie’s officially a member of the daycare! Everybody say hiiiiiiii, Charlie!” Ida said brightly. The four ghost girls all looked at Charlie. They already knew her, so, they didn’t say hi.

“Haha. Now you’re the one who threw at the end,” Licorice said.

“Yeah, now you’re the one who sucks!” Mint added.

They were having their fun at the moment, but they could only draw so much enjoyment from this. They had tried all night to capture Charlie and had failed in a very embarrassing way, just for Ida to do it in about five minutes with a truffle and some questions. Losing a game and then needing your mommy to come in and win it for you didn’t exactly feel satisfying to them.

“Thanks for the warm welcome, guys,” Charlie said, with a little roll of her eyes.

“Alright!” Ida said, clapping her hands together. “Is everybody ready?” The four ghost girls just murmured. Charlie looked around.

“Uh. Ready for what?” She asked.

“Didja notice anything weird yet?” Licorice asked, pointing at her own dress.

“Uh. Kinda,” Charlie said. She wasn’t in one of those super-poofy lace-monster dresses herself, Ida had just put her in a shirt and a skirt today. More than that though, she wasn’t wearing what she expected under it. Her eyes drifted downwards briefly. Licorice let out a laugh.

“Yeah, surprising right? Bet you expected to go straight back into diapers.” She lifted up her own dress with one hand and tugged down the waistband of her bloomers with the other, revealing a pair of red training panties.

“Licorice, stop flashing your undies,” Ida scolded. Licorice quickly let her dress fall back down, smoothing it out. “Now then, since Licorice has so kindly started us off, would anybody else like to explain further for Charlie’s benefit?”

“Explain what?” Charlie asked, shifting slightly. She was, in fact, in the same kind of panties that Licorice had just shown off. She could still feel some padding in them, but they were obviously a lot less cumbersome than the diapers she’d been wearing pretty much the entire time she’d been in the daycare the previous night.

“Uh, basically, this is how Ida figures out how ‘old’ everybody is,” Mint said, with accompanying finger quotes. “It’s how she decides who needs the most attention and babying and who gets the most independence and privileges. She puts us all in training panties, the first one to have an accident is the baby and gets treated the littlest. Anybody else who has an accident throughout the day kinda gets.” She weighed her hands back and forth. “Kinda. Toddlerish/kiddish depending on how long they last, and anybody who makes it to the end of the day is a,” Finger quotes again. “’Big girl’ and doesn’t have to wear diapers at all.”

“Uhhhh….huh.” Charlie listened to that explanation with her hands on her hips. It wasn’t that hard to get her head around, she guessed, it certainly seemed like something Ida would do. It was a little strange hearing the ghosts speak so blithely about being sorted into different age groups like that. The ghosts were already such a strange mix of adult reasoning and childish immaturity, Charlie wondered exactly what age they conceptualized themselves as. But that was way too complicated of a subject to broach at the moment and she still had a couple questions about this particular thing they were dealing with right now.

“Uh, who was the. ‘Big girl’ last night? Was it that weird gloomy Strawberry girl?” She asked. The others immediately shook their heads.

“’Berry doesn’t play,” Licorice said with a dismissive hand wave. “She doesn’t wanna try to be a big girl, she doesn’t even let Ida take her diapers off to put the training panties on. She just waits for a few people to lose and then uses her diaper on purpose.”

“I can’t remember the last time she even tried,” Mint murmured. “But yeah, she thinks it’s a total waste of time.”

“Huh. I guess I can see that,” Charlie said. From what she’d seen, Strawberry certainly did like leaning into the ‘creepy little girl who likes dolls’ shtick. She looked around. “So, uh, where is she? She’s not gonna come out for. All’a this?” She asked. Licorice shook her head again.

“She usually keeps to herself, anyway,” Licorice said.

“Really, unless we needed something from each other like last night,” Choco interjected. “Zoe was the only one she really talked to…” She let out a sigh. “I asked her if she wanted to come today, but I think she just found a room to stay in by herself.”

“Honestly, she’s probably just gonna be by herself until she finds a new doll. That’s usually how it goes,” Mint said, hands on her hips. Charlie didn’t like the sound of that and the others didn’t look that psyched about it either.

“Whatever!” Licorice said. “It’s her choice if she wants to be all pouty about losing Zoe,” she huffed. “If she wants to be left alone, I say we give her what she wants.” Charlie saw a faint crease in Ida’s brow at that last sentiment, but it apparently didn’t raise to the level of requiring a scolding.

Charlie wasn’t sure why, but she felt a little bothered by the idea of Strawberry just isolating herself. The other ghosts seemed to have gotten over their plans blowing up rather quickly, but Strawberry had clearly taken Zoe’s departure a lot harder than them. Charlie didn’t exactly feel bad about getting Zoe to leave the daycare, but she hadn’t expected the collateral damage to stick in her chest like that. But she wasn’t sure what to do about it right at this moment, so she just filed it away for later.

“So, who was the big girl last night then?” She asked. She was pretty sure she’d seen all four ghost girls in diapers after all. She got her answer when the girls started fidgeting and avoiding eye contact and Ida laughed into her hand.

“Our next big girl will be our first!” She said brightly. “But we’ve had some very close calls! One time, Licorice made it all the way to 6 PM!” Licorice immediately blushed and stared at the floor.

“That tracks, I guess,” Charlie murmured.

“Now that everybody knows the rules,” Ida said. “Does anybody want to volunteer?” She asked. “I’ll remind everybody that the littlest girl gets the most love and attention and cuddles from Nana!” The reaction was immediately and negative.

“Booooooo!” Licorice shouted out at her and stuck her tongue out.

“We’re not falling for that again!” Mint said. “Lemon, stop - Lemon, put your hand down!” The green ghost grabbed Lemon’s arm and forced it down to her side. Choco had her arms crossed.

“I, too, am declining,” the brown-haired ghost said resolutely.

“Awww, does nobody want to cuddle with nana?” Ida asked. At that, Choco’s bottom lip wibbled, but she stayed strong. “Well, in that case, I guess I’ll just leave you five alone and be back to check on you later! Hehehehe!”

As she was want to do, Ida let out a series of giggles and vanished into the ceiling, leaving them alone.
