A beam of sun peeked through the blinds and hit Evie’s face, getting her to open her eyes. They fluttered open a couple times. She briefly rolled over to get away from the sun, but a few moments later, a thought hit her, an intense thought, the kind that came with an accompanying push.

“Hoooo, that’s cold—!” Evie suddenly squeaked out when she felt a burst of cold water hit her butt. While she’d been looking away, Amaya had, one would probably think unsurprisingly, grabbed the shower head and was using it to help clean Evie up.

“Sorry,” Amaya said sheepishly and turned the heat up.

Evie heard the noise before she opened her eyes. It wasn’t the familiar noise of the door to the bedroom opening. She blinked a couple of times as her eyes opened just to see darkness, not the light, either from the hallway or the light of the bedroom turning on.

She rolled over and almost spilled out of the crib, not realizing that 1) The bars were down. 2) The person that had been between her and the bars when she’d fallen asleep was no longer there.

Evie looked and her mouth hung open and her heart sunk - she had hoped (maybe deluded herself into thinking) she’d succeeded at rolling off of Amaya, but….no.
